About Warwick
At just under an hours drive from NYC Warwick area is brimming with fun things to do and see. You are surrounded by woodlands and rural beauty, and the peace and quiet that go with it. Yet Warwick is busy! Greenwood Lake, just down the road is a large recreation area, surrounded by fine restaurants and "on the water" seating. In Warwick, summer nights can be spent at the one of the few remaining outdoor drive-ins in the country. The area is full of vinyards and apple orchards, and autumn weekends are packed with wine tastings and apple picking. There are several outstanding annual festivals, not the least of which is Applefest, a harvest celebration which attracts upwards of 35,000 people each year. New in 2010 is the Warwick Valley Jazz Festival, created by jazz drummer Steve Rubin. The first Jazz Festival was held last August 26-29, 2010. In the fall, the annual New York Rennaissance Faire is held in nearby Tuxedo, NY, and draws thousands of visitors over several weekends.
The Warwick Valley Central School District serves as the public school system for Warwick residents. Although it doesn't serve all of residents in the town Warwick; some residents in Chester, Greenwood Lake, Florida, and so on have their own school systems.
The WVCSD consists of four elementary schools (Kings Elementary, Park Avenue Elementary, Pine Island Elementary, and Sanfordville Elementary), a middle school, and Warwick Valley High School. Warwick HighSchool is a relatively large school.
Warwick is located close to major highways and trains, and has easy access to NYC, just an hour away. There are plenty of quaint shops in the immediate Warwick area, and lots more in the surrounding communities. Dining, from casual to formal is also plentiful, with many well known and highly rated restaurants are close by in Warwick and its neighboring towns.
Winter is busy also. The area is within easy driving distance to many popular downhill ski resorts and mountains. Warwick's own Mt. Peter is only minutes away. And of course, state and local parks offer cross country skiing in winter, and hiking and camping all summer long.
